Default Starter Motors

Hi

can anyone explain to me the difference between the different starter motors available for MGB ? Seems most are a reduction gear type which provides more power for starting.

But in these there seem to be 2 types, some around £70 and some around £150+. Other than the price whats the difference and is it worth 2* the price ?

cheers

Brendan

Default Starter Motor

Hi Brendan,

The high torque ones are about £150 each. I think the standard ones are a lot lower in price.
The advantage is less weight. I put one in my old GT for that very reason.
(Keep the old one in the car though just in case!)

Unless your old one is bust I wouldn't worry, just add weight to your right foot!

Cheers, Trev

Thanks for volunteering Mark, but I checked with the regs and I do need to have a starter installed. So I will not be able to take you up on your kind offer of being my external start device for the 2010 season.

Thanks Trev, current one is knackered (only goes once in about every 30 attempts). It is possible I may just be able to replace the solenoid but may take a brave pill, buy a new one, and wrap it up for Mrs Murphy for xmas.
