I have been an avid watcher a this championship for the last three years, and hopefully next year i'll get a few races under my belt as i've obtained my racing licence. I will hopefully do few drives in the Meastro class which has been awesome this year as always. And it echoed F1 where Will Sharpe (10) did a 'Kimi' and won against all odds at the last furlong. During the year Will was consistant but had some reliabiltiy issues particularly at Mallory where his car packed in. Also he was unfairly treated at Silvestone when he was adjudged to of punted off the dangerously slow moving Lee Sulivan who clearly isn't a fan of the wet, but thankfully he managed to make it up the stairs to the stewards office to make a complaint without slipping over
. Alot of talk was about realiabilty issues towards the end of the season with front runner Stratton Mckay, he did suffer with breakdowns but surley you have to ask the question about car care, Jonny Herbert used to be called unlucky in F1 until it transpired he constantly abused the race car with bad driving, smashing over rumble strips, red lining car etc etc, so that is part and parcel of the overall skill of driving,CAR CARE. Two guys who deserve maximum respect in my opinion are 'Scotty' he's a personal legend for me as he's ever improving, he dosen't throw money at it left right and centre, he respects other drivers and respects his car, hence he finishes races!!! legend top marks. Also the estate car of Hackett i beleive, again always improving and a respectful clean driver, and it has flames down the side!!! Ben Short will also be one to watch. Shame that towards the end certain drivers seemed to allow bitterness to overide rational thought, Lee Sulivan springs to mind at Pembry as he piggy backed Stratton into to stewards office to make a complaint against Will Sharpe to get his points docked!! There were few refferences to the 'unlucky' Sulivan all season, well keep it on the black stuff and maybe you'll finish a race. ![]() |

As a spectator I have always maintained that the MGOC championship is just about the best race on any BARC raceday, and others too clearly recognise it as the championship to watch and perhaps even be part of.
I remember once overhearing some spectators at Snetterton, as the commentator anounced the next race "come on quick, the MG's are out next" as they came running over the spectator bank at Russell. Need I same more! Going back a few seasons Maestro parts were possibly in better supply, but as the road cars get rustier and rustier the availabily of good panels becomes less and therefore must be more expensive? I've seen many a good race, with plenty of contact, with all particpants giving as good as they got, and everyone was still smiling at the end of the race. There is clearly no room for wreckless driving, but I believe some 'rubbin' can be acceptable and must be accepted when the racing is so close, it's the sort of racing that made those spectors, that I have already mentioned, come running to watch the racing. |
